Andrew started as a software developer and got promoted into senior and leadership roles with no support and no training in the skills that would actually make him successful.
He learnt it all on his own, and made plenty of mistakes doing it. That experience is not unusual. He sees companies promote their best engineers and then expect leadership to appear on its own, but it is a different skill set and it is rarely taught.
