Bio
“I started out as a software developer”
And learnt many things about what it takes to be a leader whilst progressing in my career to a manager and leader.
Originally from the UK but now based in Melbourne, I started out as a software developer and have been writing code for over 22 years, but this isn't what I'm the most proudest of.
As a psuedo-extrovert, I would never have dreamt that I'd be standing in front of people, on a stage, delivering workshops, keynote speeches and presentations.
I talk about topics that I'm passionate about, share my experiences and teach the skills that software managers, tech leads, consultants and heads of department need to succeed as a leader in technology.
As a technical leadership coach, I also enjoy mentoring other people to help them navigate the path of leadership in the technical world so that they get the success they want in their careers.
Programming started off as a hobby as a kid, and I love solving problems, but along the way to where I am now I have learnt so much more.
I understand that it's no longer good enough to say that I'm a strong coder and leave it at that.
Being a technical expert, probably like yourself, is great but I learnt all the other soft skills to complement the hard skills I had in order to become better at my job and make me a more well rounded technical person.
Have you asked yourself any of the below questions? I have, I've been there!
- How do I influence my team, my boss and other stakeholders so they listen and do what I want?
- I've been promoted to a leader. What do I need to do now? What type of leader do I want to be?
- What things should I be doing for my own personal and profesional development?
- I'm not an extrovert so how do I start learning these new skills? Where do I start?
The list is endless and it just shows that there is just so much more to it than just sitting and writing code.
If you're looking for more, let's find out how I can help you.
I'll see you around. Andrew
